Zoocademy is a unique experience for Homeschool students ages 5-18, covering a range of topics in Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science and Conservation. This course runs from September 2015- March 2016.
Students ages 5-12 will meet at the Education Campus at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens once a month. When you register online, you can choose to register for Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday afternoon, or Friday morning. Morning classes run from 9am-12pm and afternoon classes run from 1pm-4pm. Whichever day and time you register for online is the day and time you attend each month. Class 5-12 schedule
Students ages 13-18 will attend class online through The Ogburn School. This class is designed to teach research methods and train students to design a research project. Students will pick an animal subject they enjoy and design a research project to work on throughout the September-March Zoocademy year. Students use the Zoo as a living classroom to supplement their self-directed studies. The former lecture portion of the course will now be conducted online as self-paced studies and will not have a classroom component at the Zoo. The students will visit the Zoo on their own schedule in order to observe animals during the year. Students who enroll in the Zoological Research Methods course will work under the guidance of the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens and The Ogburn School, a SACS accredited private school in Fernandina Beach. Students who complete the course will receive a transcript from The Ogburn School, reflecting one full credit in Research. Class 13-18 schedule
